• Take a gallery walk along Chino Roces Avenue
  • Taste top-tier wines and globally inspired bites
  • Perk up with an expertly brewed flat-white coffee

Some things are just better together: art and wine, for instance. You’ll find both in abundance along lively Chino Roces Avenue, where revamped warehouses are now stocked with superb indie galleries, wine bars, and craft coffeehouses. Devote an afternoon to exploring this art-filled stretch, starting at Archivo 1984, where you can catch the ever-changing exhibits, then sift through Philippine pop-culture collectibles, records, and vintage movie posters. Nearby, Finale Art File was established in the early ‘80s and showcases an international roster of artists working in large-scale installations, sculpture, and prints. At the other end of the avenue, Silverlens Gallery is a champion of contemporary photography and mixed-media work with a focus on Southeast Asian artists. On the surrounding blocks an unlikely epicurean enclave has popped up, thanks to the presence of some of the country’s top wine importers. Start with a glass of chilled Côtes de Provence—paired with a parade of velvety French cheeses—at Sommelier Selection, which hosts wine and cheese tastings in Jannov Plaza.Next, cross the street to the Smith Bell Building and make your way to Txanton, a sleek wine and ham store and tasting room, where you’ll snack on silky Iberico Bellota jamón imported from Spain as you sip a Ribera del Duero. Finish strong with juicy gambas, flaming chorizo, and a rich glass of Rioja at Terry’s Selection, known for its menu of Spanish pintxos and tapas (with a pronounced Filipino accent). If all this has made you woozy, revive with a note-perfect flat white at artisanal coffee haven Toby’s Estate, from Australian lawyer-turned-expert-coffee-roaster Toby Smith.

It’s a 20-minute drive from Conrad Manila to either end of Chino Roces Avenue; during rush hour expect a 45-minute trip. Start at the top with Archivo and make your way down to Finale Art File, then cross over to the Avenue’s extension, where you’ll find Silverlens, the wine shops, and Toby’s Estate.
